Voice and Data Network Integration

INTRODUCTION Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is the enabling technology for this service integration. In short, 64Kbps voice is converted into data packets and transferred over the data backbone. The savings of voice and data over a single corporate network can be considerable and the technology exists. But where does a company begin? This article reviews the enabling technologies and presents a viable private network evolution strategy that takes advantage of current technologies and standards. Savings are realized almost immediately.
